Earned Value Management Software for Primavera P6
EVMS forProject adds earned value management to the schedules you already build in Primavera P6, from simple performance measurement to supporting full EVMS compliance.
Keep scheduling where you are. EVMS forProject brings in your P6 EPPM schedule through P6 web services, applies direct and indirect rates, uses schedule status to calculate EV performance, updates your ETC/EAC forecast, maintains baseline control, adds actual costs from your accounting system, and shows performance at every level.
You can analyze your data on screen with over 50 EV metrics and KPIs, which can be displayed in any unit of measure at any level of detail. And, if needed, EVMS forProject can produce all the government reports and data exports required on a contract, including IPMDAR and DOE PARS.
The gap P6 leaves
Primavera P6 is a powerful and popular scheduling tool, but it isn’t built for earned value. Its earned value fields aren’t sufficient for accurate EV measurement or formal EVMS reporting. It can’t apply indirect rates and show the build-up of costs from labor hours to direct cost, fringe, overhead and G&A. It does not provide the detailed logging required for baseline change control. P6 cannot produce all the required or important EV metrics or KPIs, or produce IPMDAR, IPMR and the full set of DOE PARS exports. The challenge is to find an effective way to fill these gaps that will work seamlessly with your existing P6 schedule data.
How EVMS forProject works with P6
- Connect to P6. EVMS forProject connects to Primavera P6 EPPM through its web services and imports each project using an import map that matches its fields.
- Resources too. If your schedule is resource-loaded, EVMS forProject can import your resource planning information (labor and non-labor) to establish your baseline and forecast. If it isn’t, you can plan the baseline and forecast directly in EVMS forProject.
- Apply direct and indirect rates. EVMS forProject can apply your direct and indirect rates to get from labor hours and direct costs all the way to total cost or price, using complex rate calculations to match your financial systems.
- Status updates to drive Earned Value. EVMS forProject imports your latest status information (for example, Actual Start, Actual Finish and Performance % Complete) and calculates earned value using a library of EV measurement methods, including discrete, apportioned and level of effort (LOE).
- Review what changed. Review Changes shows what moved since the last import before you accept it.
- Add actual costs. Bring in actual labor and non-labor costs by Charge Number from your financial system (Costpoint, Unanet, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics and others) through Excel or Integrator forProject.
- Analyze. View more than 50 earned value metrics at every level and in every unit of measure, including by Element of Cost. If applicable, export data in an optimized format to Empower™ for additional EV analysis.
- Report. Produce IPMDAR, IPMR, DOE PARS CPP, CAP, RAM and other EV reports and graphical charts. For the IPMDAR SPD and the PARS schedule data, EVMS forProject reads your P6 schedule when you run the report.

Frequently asked questions
Doesn’t P6 already calculate earned value?
Only in a rudimentary way, and not sufficient for accurate EV measurement and formal reporting.
Can we track earned hours, not just dollars or other currencies?
Yes. Results can be shown in hours, FTEs, direct cost or fully loaded cost, cumulative or time-phased.
Can EVMS forProject produce DOE PARS CPP data from P6?
Yes. It produces all 22 PARS datasets (cost, schedule and supplemental) together, reading schedule data directly from P6 when you run the export.
Can it produce the IPMDAR Schedule Performance Dataset (SPD) from P6?
Yes. EVMS forProject reads the P6 schedule when you run the IPMDAR export and produces the SPD alongside the CPD.
Do we keep using P6?
Yes. Your schedulers keep working in P6, and EVMS forProject imports from it each period.
Does it work with P6 Professional?
EVMS forProject connects to P6 EPPM through its web services. It doesn’t connect to P6 Professional on the desktop.
Do we need a formal EVM requirement?
No. Many teams use it for simple performance measurement on projects with no formal requirement, and the same system scales to support a full, formal EVMS process if required.
