TL;DR: We’ve launched the forProject Encyclopedia, a free online glossary of earned value, scheduling and government-standards terms. Each one has a plain-language definition, what it means for you, and links to related terms.

Browse it: forProject Encyclopedia
Earned value has its own language. The forProject Encyclopedia puts all of it in one place, in plain English.
Earned value and scheduling come with a lot of jargon: BCWP, SPI, total float, IBR.
Whether you’re new to the field or double-checking a definition before a review, it helps to have the answer in one place.
What’s inside. Each term opens with a short definition you can read in seconds. Below that you’ll find a fuller explanation, what it means for you, related terms and a short FAQ.
Filter by what you do. Terms are grouped into EVM Terms, Scheduling Terms and Government Standards. A scheduler can go straight to the scheduling terms. An EVMS analyst can skip them.
Where it came from. The Encyclopedia started in the classroom. Its definitions are drawn from forProject’s training courses in Earned Value and Scheduling, which we’ve taught since 2012. Now they’re available to anyone, free.
A few places to start:
- Budget at Completion
- Critical Path
- Integrated Baseline Review. IBRs take on a bigger role under DoD’s September memo.
Is it free? Yes. There’s no sign-up.
Can I suggest a term or a correction? Yes, please. Email us at info@forproject.com.
