TL;DR: EVMS forProject exports your earned value data directly to Empower, from Encore Analytics, in the Empower Optimized Format. Task-level schedule detail from Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 goes in the same package. Over 100 validations run before anything leaves.

One unified export combines the earned value data from EVMS forProject with the schedule data from Microsoft Project or Primavera P6. Validations are performed during the export to identify potential problems so you can fix them at the source.
What Empower is
Empower is a browser-based analytical tool that brings together earned value, schedule, work authorization and other key performance data, so teams can manage complex projects proactively. Contractors use it, and so do multiple government agencies: DoD/DoW agencies, NASA and DOE, to name a few.
What this means for you
The government formats (IPMR XML, IPMDAR JSON, DOE PARS JSON) were built for reporting to your customer. They are a poor fit for your own analysis, and are limited in important respects:
- They carry only two structures, WBS and OBS, which limits how you can analyze the data.
- In IPMR and IPMDAR exports, cost and schedule data go in separate files, so it takes extra work to keep them consistent.
- They limit how you define Units and elements of cost, and they have little room for custom fields.
The Empower Optimized Format removes those limits. From EVMS forProject, one export gives you:
- Support for WBS, OBS and up to 12 more breakdown structures
- Any number of Units, including any direct or indirect Result Unit
- Additional Elements of Cost mapped from your Result Units
- Any number of custom fields at the Contract, Element and Task level
- Integration of task-level schedule detail, read from Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 at the time of export
More structures, Units, elements of cost and custom fields give you more ways to summarize, drill down and filter in Empower.
In addition, the validation process allows you to identify problems in EVMS forProject, where you can fix them, before the data reaches Empower.
This simplified approach means you can use it to integrate your entire project portfolio to Empower with less effort, not just projects with a formal EVMS reporting requirement.
Availability
The Empower export is available in EVMS forProject v3.2.18 or later. It’s included at no additional cost for customers with an active Maintenance and Support agreement.
