Quick definition: A Project Milestone is a project-level milestone marking a significant event, a major deliverable, or the start or end of a major project phase.
Unlike an EV Milestone, which exists to measure earned value within a single Work Package, a project milestone operates at a higher, project-wide level — often tied to contract deliverables or phase transitions. Like most schedule milestones, it carries zero duration and is used purely as a marker in the schedule.

Project milestones give management and customers a clear, high-level view of project progress without needing to track every underlying task, making them a key reporting point in schedule reviews.
