Quick definition: A Milestone is a zero-Duration schedule event that marks a point in time, from a major deliverable or phase end to a detail point used to link Tasks in the schedule logic.
Unlike a Task, a Milestone has no resources assigned to it. Milestones can flag major events, such as decision points, deliverables, and phase transitions. They're also used at a detail level to connect Tasks, so the schedule logic reflects how the work really flows.

What's the difference between a Milestone and an EV Milestone?
A Milestone marks a schedule-level event. An EV Milestone exists to measure earned value within a Work Package under the Weighted Milestone Method, and may not appear in the schedule at all.
