Budget Log

EVM Terms Reviewed by forProject Technology - updated Oct 2026
Quick definition: The Budget Log is a log that tracks changes to the Contract Budget Base (CBB) and other important values over the life of the project.

The Budget Log is a running record of every change to a project's key budget values, from the contract level down to individual Control Accounts and Summary Level Planning Packages (SLPPs), as well as the balances in Management Reserve (MR) and Undistributed Budget (UB). Other values tracked include, for example, Total Allocated Budget (TAB), Negotiated Contract Cost (NCC), Authorized Unpriced Work (AUW), Distributed Budget, UB, and MR.

What this means for you

The Budget Log provides a traceable record of all changes to the Contract Budget Base (CBB) and other related budget components over the life of the project. Without a comprehensive, integrated log of every budget change, it would be very hard to reconstruct how the baseline evolved.
