Planning & Scheduling Excellence Guide (PASEG)
The PASEG collects practical scheduling guidance from Government and Industry practitioners into a single reference, covering task naming, relationship logic, constraints, Working Calendars, Critical Path and Driving Path analysis, schedule risk, and execution metrics. It is written primarily for the DoD community, but the techniques apply to any scheduling tool or environment. It is guidance rather than a requirement — the PASEG is explicitly subordinate to whatever each program's contract specifies, and where a technique is contentious it points to the Generally Accepted Scheduling Principles (GASP), eight tenets describing a sound schedule. The current edition is Version 6, September 2025.
Why it matters
Much of the scheduling terminology in this encyclopedia traces back to the PASEG, which is the closest thing the defense scheduling community has to a common reference. Knowing it exists — and that it is guidance rather than contractual obligation — helps a team distinguish settled practice from local habit.
