Latest Revised Estimate (LRE)
EVM Terms
Reviewed by forProject Technology - updated Sep 2026
Quick definition: The Latest Revised Estimate (LRE) is a Control Account Manager's most current estimate of cost at completion, broken out by element of cost, for a given Control Account, as approved by the Program Manager.
The LRE reflects a Control Account Manager's up-to-date view of what a Control Account will actually cost when finished, updated as work progresses and conditions change. Once the Program Manager approves it, it functions much like an Estimate at Completion (EAC) at the Control Account level, and the two terms are sometimes used closely together.
Why it matters
Because the LRE is refreshed regularly at the Control Account level, it gives management an early, granular warning of cost growth — often before it becomes visible in the project's overall Estimate at Completion.

FAQ
Is the LRE the same thing as the EAC?
They're closely related — LRE commonly refers to a Control Account Manager's latest EAC for that specific Control Account.
What does it mean if the LREs don't add up to the project's EAC?
It's a flag. Either the Control Account Managers' latest estimates haven't been rolled up, or an adjustment has been applied above the Control Account level. Either way the difference should be explainable and documented.
