Quick definition: The Performing Organization is the functional organization or department assigned to perform a defined scope of work, such as a Control Account or Work Package.
A Control Account or Summary Level Planning Package (SLPP) can have one or more Performing Organizations doing its work. Each one provides the people and other resources for its part of that scope. It's a looser idea than the Responsible Organization, which is assigned one per Control Account or SLPP.
What this means for you
Identifying the Performing Organizations shows where labor and other resources come from. That supports resource planning and helps trace where cost is actually being incurred.

What's the difference between Performing Organization and Responsible Organization?
The Responsible Organization answers for the scope, schedule, and cost performance of a Control Account or SLPP, and there's exactly one for each. Performing Organizations do the work, and there can be more than one.
Can more than one Performing Organization work on the same Control Account?
Yes. A Control Account can have more than one Performing Organization, but each Work Package must be assigned to a single Performing Organization.
