Measured Milestone

Under the Weighted Milestone Method, a Work Package is broken into milestones that each carry a share of the budget. Measured Milestone is one of two ways to take credit at those milestones: progress can be assessed and earned inside a milestone before it's finished, so a milestone that is half done can earn half its weight. The alternative is Discrete Milestone, where a milestone earns its full weight only on completion and nothing before. Measured suits longer milestones where waiting for completion would leave progress invisible for too long, but it reintroduces the judgment that Discrete avoids.

Why it matters

Measured Milestone trades some objectivity for earlier visibility. On long milestones, all-or-nothing credit can make a Work Package look stalled when real work is happening — but allowing partial credit puts an assessment back in the hands of the person reporting progress. The choice between Measured and Discrete is a deliberate decision about which risk matters more on that particular work.
